We are seeking an exceptional Senior Director of Experience Design to lead the user experience vision, strategy, and execution for our ultrasound portfolio. This individual will champion human-centered design across clinical workflows, hardware/software interfaces, and service touchpoints to ensure our ultrasound solutions are intuitive, efficient, and meet the needs of clinicians and patients.
This role will bridge the gap between design, engineering, clinical stakeholders, and commercial teams-crafting seamless, innovative, and compliant experiences that advance diagnostic performance and drive product adoption.
This position is in Santa or St. Louis, but hybrid/remote with travel is also an option
Expected compensation will fall between $190,000 and $240,000 per year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the global experience design strategy for ultrasound platforms, including console systems, and software tools.
- Drive a human-centered design process that incorporates clinical observation, customer feedback, and iterative usability testing.
- Oversee all aspects of UX/UI design, interaction design, information architecture, and industrial design, aligning product aesthetics and functionality with brand values.
- Collaborate with cross-functional leaders in engineering, marketing, regulatory, and clinical affairs to ensure cohesive user experiences across product lines.
- Partner with clinical experts and sonographers to translate complex diagnostic workflows into intuitive interfaces and user journeys.
- Build and mentor a high-performing, multidisciplinary design team across hardware and software domains.
- Establish metrics and frameworks for design quality, usability, and accessibility, ensuring compliance with medical device standards (e.g., IEC 62366, FDA HF guidance).
- Define and implement a cohesive branding framework that ensures visual, tonal, and experiential consistency across all digital and physical customer touchpoints.
- Contribute to the long-term innovation roadmap, identifying unmet clinical needs and emerging user experience opportunities.
- Serve as a thought leader internally and externally, representing the design function at industry events, customer engagements, and strategic planning forums.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in UX/experience design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record designing for medical devices, with deep expertise in ultrasound systems highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of clinical environments, particularly interventional procedures and diagnostic imaging workflows.
- Experience with design control processes, human factors engineering, and regulatory documentation in healthcare.
- Expertise in design systems, prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Axure), usability testing, and accessibility standards.
- Ability to inspire and lead creative teams, while influencing cross-functional stakeholders at the executive level.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to advocate for users and design excellence.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in AI-enhanced diagnostics, or workflow optimization tools
- Exposure to international markets and multi-language UX considerations
- Familiarity with Agile/Lean UX methodologies
